Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova: "No progress has been made in justice; Those who participated in the capture of the state are back in their positions and even promoted."

Peter Michalko, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, 17 May 2021:
- "No progress has been made in justice; Those who participated in the capture of the state are back in their positions and even promoted."

"Justice is an area where no progress has been made. It's something that needs to happen in the future and soon enough for people to feel. Justice was influenced by the system that captured the entire country. The influence of political, economic, and private interests was obvious and did not change from this point of view. It was an attempt in June 2019, but it did not continue, and people are still waiting for it to happen. People do not see that justice is fair. It is related to two things: justice reform, which refers to the activity of all institutions involved in the legal system, and, on the other hand, it's about people who don't have integrity issues. When it is seen that those who have participated in the past in the capture of the state and the justice system are back in their positions and even promoted and, on the other hand, those who do not have integrity problems are not accepted and are not allowed to takes office, then there are serious doubts as to whether the reform can take place under such conditions."
