PRESS RELEASE

According to the indictment, during 2014, the former governor of the National Bank of Moldova, as well as two of his deputies, acting in the interest of the criminal organisation led by Vladimir Plahotniuc, developed and implemented a fraudulent drainage of large financial means from the national banking system.
We specify that, according to the evidence accrued, the prosecutors found that the criminal organisation led by Vladimir Plahotniuc [...].
Here is the statement of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The next day, on 5 July 2022, the Court of Chisinau issued another arrest warrant in the name of Vladimir Plahotniuc. Earlier, Moldovan courts ordered Plahotniuc's arrest on 24 February 2019 and on 22 May 2020.

Sanctions against Plahotniuc and grounds for them

The EU , US , UK , Canada , Switzerland and Norway added Plahotniuc to their Sanctions lists. Plahotniuc fled Moldova in June 2019. His whereabouts remain unknown.
